Instacast is a revolutionary podcast client and offers the best podcast experience on the planet. To put it simply, if you listen to podcasts on your phone or tablet and are tired of crashes, bugs, or complicated search interfaces, download InstaCast 3 now. During our tests, we were able to find all of the podcasts we searched for quickly, and there were no crashes or slowdowns in playback as we have seen in many other podcast apps. Streaming is quick, especially with an iPhone 5 or 4G iPad, and downloads are done in the background. While this is a pricey app at $4.99, it is far and away the best podcast management and subscription tool available for Apple's devices, including the Apple podcast app. When subscribed you can receive notifications of new episodes, and downloads are done automatically, but only after prompting. You can also enter a URL for a direct podcast to create a subscription, or access podcasts you've downloaded elsewhere in your Music App. When searching for Podcasts, you can look at either video or audio options separate them by author, genre, or popularity or search directly. All functionality works out of the box, without an account (though we found the syncing to be quick and effective, so it is highly recommended for those with multiple devices). Installation of InstaCast 3 is fast, and while there is a registration option that will allow you to sync your data across multiple devices or accounts, it is optional. Developed by Vemedio, InstaCast 3 is a complete, all-in-one podcast client for your iPad or iPhone that is fully compatible with the newest versions of iOS 6.0, syncs across multiple devices and streams quickly and properly. Apple tried to make this easier with a Podcast app, but bugs and limited support for older devices crippled it early on. The issue, until relatively recently, has always been accessing, organizing, and syncing those podcasts on your phone. Either way, podcasts have come into their own on mobile devices, thanks to easy access through the iTunes Store, instant streaming, and the release of thousands of high-quality productions seemingly every day. Call it a rebirth or possibly a renaissance. Banker-turned-chef Hugo Guajardo highlights the regional cuisine of Northeastern Mexico with modern twists. Check with each restaurant for up-to-date information on dining offerings. Studies indicate a lower exposure risk to COVID-19 outdoors, but the level of risk is contingent on social distancing and other safety guidelines. Note: The inclusion of restaurants offering dine-in service should not be taken as an endorsement for dining inside. So settle in beside the auto execs and Tecnológico de Monterrey students, order up a steak or escargots or eggplant chicharrón, and get to know Monterrey through the city’s essential restaurants. Yet even as locals said goodbye to some beloved eateries, the community embraced new ventures born during difficult times: an ice cream parlor featuring artisanal ingredients, a former ghost kitchen and now full restaurant serving British fish and chips, a daring high-end establishment honoring Northern Mexican cuisine, and more. Blake, 13 Puercos de Soto, and El Gran Laszlo Loszla, three essential fixtures of the dining scene, were among those forced to close permanently. In cities across the globe, the pandemic has left restaurants reeling - and Monterrey is no exception. Steakhouses make room for ramen spots, taco joints join artisanal bakeries, and fine dining stalwarts meet French bistros. The restaurant scene has grown immensely in the past few years, both in the restaurant hub in San Pedro García Garza and elsewhere, as chefs branch out with exciting concepts across town. While that tradition runs strong, vegetarians shouldn’t be discouraged. Chefs venerate open-fire cooking, diners regularly get together around steak, and grilled beef and cabrito (baby goat) have become synonymous with eating in the city. With nearly year-round hot weather, Monterrey long ago developed a deep barbecue tradition. The scene is diverse: Among tables of raucous students and suits toasting business deals, you’ll find plenty of local families sharing heaping orders of rib-eye tacos and grilled vegetables. As a well-known commercial hub and university town, though, it does get its fair share of out-of-towners, and a vibrant restaurant scene has sprung up to cater to the influx. The groups that are the most successful are the one who perform before tourist in Hanoi and Saigon. They typically know a repertoire of 40 or 50 vignettes. There are currently about a dozen water puppet troops, performing mostly in villages in the Red River Delta. (Only one permanent stone structure is known to exist.) Above the water was constructed a temporary structure, from which a bamboo curtain hung to shield the puppeteers from the audience sitting on the banks of the pond. In the old days the performances were usually arranged at the village ponds, typical features of Vietnamese villages. The puppeteers, originally ordinary villagers, manipulate 30- to 40-centimeter-high puppets while standing in water. The factors all work together to bring out charming glimpses of the Vietnamese psyche, as well as typical landscapes of Vietnam. There are many contributing factors to the art of water puppetry, including such handicrafts as wood sculpture and lacquer work. The configuration of the poles and wires under the water is a secret, and spectators are not allowed to watch from behind the screen. Complicated mechanisms make it possible to move the puppets’ limbs and even to make a puppet smoke a cigarette. The puppets are manipulated with rods hidden under the water. Some of the puppets are quite large-60 centimeters tall and weighing 13.5 kilograms-and are manipulated by three puppeteers. The most outstanding puppet, known as the chu teu, has a round face and a humorous and optimistic smile. Each puppet is handmade, has its own posture and expresses a certain character. Vietnamese water puppets are made of wood and coated with lacquer and waterproof paint. Vietnamese Water Puppets and Water Puppeteers The show is interspersed with such items as a Dance by the Four Mythical Animals: Dragon, Unicorn, Tortoise, and Phoenix and Dance by the Eight Fairies, in which supernatural beings enjoy festivities alongside people of this world. The characters plough, plant rice seedlings, fish in a pond with a rod and line, scoop water with a bamboo basket hung from a tripod, etc. At a water puppet show, the audience watches boat races, buffalo fights, fox hunts and other rustic scenes amidst the beating of drums and gongs. The pond and lakes of the northern plains, where crowds gathered during festival and galas, become the lively stages for the water puppet shows. In a number of small villages near Hanoi water puppet theater is still performed at certain festivities, as it has been in times past. It is an old and rare North Vietnamese form of puppet theater, and it has actively been revived since the 1980s. Miettinen of the Theater Academy Helsinki wrote: "Vietnam also has its own tradition of puppet theater, mua roi nuroc (puppets that dance on water). The Vietnamese government has asked that it be declared part of the world’s cultural heritage by UNESCO.ĭr. Water puppetry nearly died during the war years but has been revived in recent years and is enjoyed by Vietnamese and tourists. More of a folk art than a court art, it has a long history of being performed in ponds and rice paddies during lulls in the agriculture cycle. According to one story, water puppetry was developed in the 11th century in the Red River Delta by puppeteers who decided to carry on even though there was a flood. The stories, which are well-known to Vietnamese, are conveyed through actions. Performances are usually accompanied by music and have little dialogues. Featuring stories from everyday life and famous legends, it features fire-breathing dragons, farmers, frogs, old men, gods, goddesses, and fish. Use two jumps to get up to the strongbox.Īlternatively, if you have a skyscale, start from Teku Nuhoch Waypoint - and go through nuhoch wallow to grub pit (the treasure mushroom chamber). Turning around and flying back into the same updraft, you can land on the ledge to the west and then walk south and drop down onto the "Sword of Smodur" Strongbox.Īlternatively, if you have a springer, start from Order of Whispers Camp Waypoint - and follow the road until you are below the strongbox. Glide north into the updraft and down to the "Cryptonym" Strongbox. It is easier to reach the "Cryptonym" Strongbox first. To the north of this last pad lies the "Cryptonym" Strongbox, and to the west lies the "Sword of Smodur" Strongbox. Unlike regular mastery points though, strongboxes are not marked on the map. These little boxes contain a variety of loot, and will reward you with one mastery point the first time that you open one. Continue along north to the last fungus pad with some Tropical Birds hanging out on it. Vengeance Rising Strongbox Straight And Narrow Strongbox Obsidian Triumph Strongbox Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns introduced us to strongboxes. At the top of this root is a tricky jump that looks deceptively easy-you have to hop to the right, onto an area which is very close to a slope that may cause you to slip off the root entirely. Jump over to the next root and climb upwards. Glide into the updraft, and then land somewhere to the left of the Veteran Vampire Beast (see the third and fourth gallery images). Rounding the corner to the north you will see an updraft in front of you. Climb to the top and then jump up to the ledge with a Cave Screamer and a Vampire Beast. Climb these mushrooms and face east - glide onto the next two fungus pads on the root system opposite (per the second gallery image). Jump from the raised ground on the right and glide over to the nearby fungus pads. Hop along the ledge on the left over to a platform which likely has two Mordrem on it. Starting from the Order of Whispers Camp Waypoint - in Tangled Descent, head east past the Mordrem (avoiding the hole in the ground with the waterfall pouring into it) and then keep left until the cave ceiling opens up a bit (you should now be looking at the area in the first gallery image). He is the author of Chicago Skyscrapers, 1871-1934 (Champaign: University of Illinois Press, 2013), and is currently writing its sequel Chicago Skyscrapers, 1934-1986. THOMAS LESLIE is the Morrill Professor in Architecture at Iowa State University where he researches the integration of building sciences and arts, both historically and in contemporary practice. Joanna Merwood-Salisbury will unpack the theory and history of the First Chicago School. Talks by Tom Leslie and Don Friedman will discuss the aesthetic and technical treatment of the curtain wall as it develops differently in New York and Chicago. However, each city’s proximity to varying sources of stone, glass, and terra cotta – coupled with differing approaches to fire codes and the politics of local labor unions – created subtly different approaches to skyscraper facades. Electric lighting, building materials, and environmental controls all played roles in changing skyscraper skins in both New York and Chicago. Developers' desire for efficiency and natural daylight led to thinner, lighter walls – "veneers" in the dismissive language of early critics and "curtain walls" in the parlance of more enthusiastic designers. The third session of the Construction History series focuses on Facades. Steel frames freed exterior walls from structural duties, allowing architects new freedom to develop facades that could respond to changing functional and aesthetic criteria. 4Lite WiZ Connected products work straight out of the box with no annoying blinking before you pair them! Aristotle distinguished non-living and living things (animals and plants), and the organised, living body was the instrument of the soul ( soma organikon) in the same sense that the eye is the instrument of vision (“every organ is for the sake of something or the instrument of something”). The term organic comes from Greek οργανον, organon, instrument, and has roots going back to Aristotle (384–322 BC). In this Perspective, the origins of organic chemistry and the words organic and inorganic, which in fact have had somewhat different meanings over time, are traced chronologically. Therefore, students may not acquire a clear understanding of why the subject is actually called “Organic Chemistry”, and those who profess it organic chemists. Berthelot's syntheses of non-natural fats in 1853 started modern synthetic organic chemistry as the chemistry of carbon compounds, regardless of whether occurring in Nature or not.Ĭonsidering the enormous breath of the subject, 1 it is not common for chemistry educators to cover the history of organic chemistry in any depth due to time limitations, and textbooks do not devote much space to it. The concept of organic chemistry changed radically when Wöhler and Kolbe prepared organic compounds from the elements. Descartes’ dictum that synthesis is required to prove an analysis was enacted by Bergman and others. Lavoisier invented and Berzelius improved combustion analysis for organic characterization. In the late 1700s and early 1800s, organic natural products were isolated by Scheele, and Chevreuil separated carboxylic acids from saponification of fats. Buffon, Bergman and Gren defined organic bodies as living things in the 1700s, but discrete organic compounds remained unknown. The iatrochemists prepared numerous pharmaceutical remedies in the 1600s but had no concept of organic chemistry. The words organic and synthesis originate with Aristotle (meaning ‘instrumental’ and ‘put together’, respectively) but had different meanings over time. |
